Mike Hawkins and Matt Krueger (MVB Sept 29, 2016)

Mike Hawkins has his first victory as a head coach in the Canada West. Even though it was only exhibition, the interim bench boss of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s volleyball team was at the helm as the ‘Pack opened up a tournament in Kelowna with a victory.

The WolfPack downed the host University of British Columbia Okanagan Heat 3-2 at the ‘Furnace’ at UBCO. The scores were 20-25,22-25,25-22,25-19,26-24.
It was the first of three preseason matches that the ‘Pack will play this weekend.

TRU was led by Randy Grundmann (4th year, outside hitter, Winnipeg, MB) with 15 kills and four service aces. Sam Taylor Parks (2nd year, middle, Kelowna, BC) had nine kills, three stuff blocks and three service aces.

The ‘Pack play the University of Saskatchewan Huskies tonight (Sept 30) at 6 pm and close things out on Saturday (Oct 1) versus the Mount Royal University Cougars at 4 pm. Tonight’s matchup is another battle of ‘interim’ head coaches as fellow former Lethbridge resident Joel Dyck is directing the Huskies this season.

TRU will open its 2016-17 Canada West regular season on Friday, October 28th when they entertain the University of Alberta Golden Bears on the Warner Rentals Court at the Tournament Capital Centre. Game time is 6 pm.
